Requirements:

Education: High School graduate or equivalent.

Training and Experience: Good public relation skills and interact with people well. Computer skills, typing skills, calculator skills and telephone skills necessary. Ability to promote effective written/verbal communication. Maintain patient confidentiality and information per policy and procedures. Dependable, trustworthy and flexible. Fulfill additional performance responsibilities as assigned and necessary in a timely manner. Organizes and executes daily tasks in proper priority.

Description:

Hamilton Memorial Hospital District has an immediate opening for a full-time Phlebotomist/Secretary. At HMHD our mission is to enhance the delivery of healthcare to our community and the surrounding area by providing accessible quality healthcare services. HMHD utilizes the premier electronic medical record system EPIC with My Chart as an amenity for patients and staff.

  • Responsible for receiving calls to the laboratory, directing calls to the appropriate department, and/or recording messages. 
  • Responsible for distribution of laboratory mail.
  • Responsible for sending out-patient test result to the physicians.
  • Responsible for logging results of laboratory tests sent to reference laboratories and mailing letters when appropriate. 
  • Responsible for giving phone reports of test result and other general office duties as assigned.
  • Successfully performs phlebotomy and arterial punctures on patients of all ages.
  • Manage adverse reactions to phlebotomy and arterial puncture. Is also familiar with geriatric and pediatric care.
  • May be required to work any shift, weekends and holidays.
  • Is rarely sick or absent from work.
  • Must have the ability to think clearly and make logical decisions in emergency situations.
  • Must have the ability to promote effective written/verbal communication.
  • Must be in good health and demonstrate emotional stability, able to perform the tasks involving physical activity and moving intermittently throughout he work day. Maintains confidentiality of patient information per policy and procedure.
  • Promotes harmonious relationships and favorable attitudes among the health care team.
  • Conforms to the hospital dress code.
  • Recognize your role as part of the QAPI efforts at HMHD.
  • Carry out QAPI roles and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Follow established policies and procedures in support of QAPI efforts.
  • Support the Just Culture concept and its use to improve patient safety.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory of office supplies.
  • Responsible for guest relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Attends interdepartmental in-services and meetings.
  • Responsible for operation of the LIS, including entering patient data, ordering tests, faxing, adding new information, and any other job duties required for this system.
