Education:  Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent. Associates degree preferred.

Training and Experience:  Must possess excellent public relations skills and interact with people well. The position requires basic knowledge of computers and software; healthcare/clinical experience required (2+ years\\\\\\\\\\\' experience preferred); EPIC EMR system experience is preferred.

Job Knowledge: The ideal candidate for this position would be self-motivated, possess an excellent ability to work alone and with a team, and have a basic understanding of medical offices and processes. The individual will be dependable, trustworthy, flexible, and able to maintain patient confidentiality and information per policy and procedures. The individual must be able to understand the information needed upon patient registration to accurately and proficiently register a patient and have a familiarity with Microsoft Office applications including outlook, word and excel. Excellent organizational and communication skills are required. Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with stressful situations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong record of performance and attendance.

Working Conditions: Work is generally performed in an office setting, but some tasks may require clinical contact that could produce exposure to injuries (e.g. cuts, needle sticks) and exposure to blood, and contaminated hazardous materials.


The Referral & Prior Authorization Specialst works with providers, staff, patients, and insurance companies to obtain the appropriate referrals and prior authorizations and requests for referrals for necessary treatment, ancillary testing, and outpatient procedures for the patient. In addition, they will maintain ongoing tracking and appropriate documentation on referrals to promote team awareness and ensure patient safety. This position will also be responsible for follow-up on referrals and completed appointments and chart documentation

Essential Functions: Coordinates patient referrals requested by the provider to the appropriate community resources. Provides proper prior authorization for referrals and tracks all referrals to ensure completion and receipt of documentation from specialists. Schedules patients for appointments in the RHC and specialty clinics as assigned. Accurately records appropriate patient information in patient charts.
