Senior Enrichment Celebrates 5 Year Anniversary
Hamilton Memorial Hospital Senior Enrichment program recently celebrated its five year anniversary of providing care to area senior citizens. The Hamilton Memorial Hospital Senior Enrichment Program, located at 303 W. Randolph in McLeansboro (between Food Park and Freds), began seeing patients in early 2011 and has played a significant role in helping over 150 area seniors cope with life issues related to their senior years.
“The Senior Enrichment Program offers individualized care in a warm, supportive environment and assists our elderly patients who are experiencing issues related to the normal aging process,” said Greg Sims, CEO of Hamilton Memorial Hospital.
The program is designed to help seniors cope with a number of issues including anxiety, depression, unresolved grief, worry, isolation, anger, low self esteem and physical and personality changes. In addition to improving a senior’s outlook on life, the therapy services also helps individuals to better care for themselves and follow their primary care physician’s directions toward overall better health.
“Our hope is that our aging family members will enjoy their golden years, but as individuals age, they experience events such as the loss of loved ones and the stress that go with losing physical and mental abilities which can lead to sadness and withdrawal”, said Tiffany Cox, MSW, Senior Enrichment Program Director. “Most depression and other emotional illnesses in older citizens are treatable, especially if dealt with early,” Cox added.
One local Senior Enrichment program graduate stated, “I came into the Senior Enrichment Program feeling broken, and graduated feeling full of life again.”
The Senior Enrichment Program features a multi-disciplinary treatment team to ensure the best quality patient care possible for those enrolled in the program. Along with the patient, family members, and the patient’s primary care provider, the team includes: a Medical Director, a Primary Therapist, a Registered Nurse, and a Unit Clerk.
